High-energy centrifugal finishing methods were originally developed for ultra-smoothing and fine finishing of smaller precision parts.  The high-energy momentum of abrasive and polishing materials within these systems permitted the use of smaller dimensioned media that could access fine features and intricate geometries of some smaller parts.  In these types of operations, several different cycles using successively finer abrasive materials are used to produce very fine finishes, in some cases as low as one micro-inch Ra.  This type of finishing is used for both decorative/cosmetic effects and for producing functional finishes to improve performance and service life of parts in a wide variety of demanding industrial applications.
